Nail for A Month

Morning Beautifuls,

So, I had an idea for a blog post a while back – to show you the nail colours I wore for a month.

It was a slight challenge a well, the rule of the nail polish was that once it became chipped I was to remove it and change it up instead of leaving it on and picking at it until there were only speckles left. Lets be real, everyone does it!

I also cheated a tiny little bit – I think – as the first nail polish was one a few days before the month officially started and the last nail colour was applied on the last month of the day. But seeming I’m making the rules for this blog post, I’m just going to ignore those two minor details.

Anyway, first nail colour of the month was my absolute favourite nail polish. To date. I bought this colour over in Europe – Berlin, I think. No idea what shop, no idea if you can buy it elsewhere but I love it.

Appropriately named ‘Moody Blues’, it is a gorgeous royal blue matte nail varnish with a beautiful velvet-like finish to it. I adore this colour – a bit too much, I think – and I love its application. I like to do two thin coats of this colour and then, because I don’t own a matte clear coat, omit using anything else. The pictures are day two of the wear – surprisingly not many chips. This colour and the way I applied it seemed to last for just over a week because I decided it was too cracked and chipped and I had to move on.

DSC06900

Now for something completely different. French tipped nails. I love these nails, however have found myself doing them less and less as they need time, effort and concentration. Something that sometimes I don’t have. Which was why I was so excited that I had the time when it came to nail polish number two.

How do I do my French tips? Well, firstly, I find French nail kits a complete waste of money – you can definitely buy all you need for a lot less than a kit.

My first coat is always a light pink. For years I have used my Nutrometics pink polish, however when my eyes laid eyes on Tanya Burr ‘Mini Marshmallows’ I immediately knew that this was the perfect colour for French nails. It is the lightest nude pink that covers up nail blemishes while still looking extremely natural. Once one coat of my pink nail polish is dried – completely! – I got in with a careful had a dab on my white tips. This takes time and practice, try using tape if this is your first shot, however I found it easier just to do it freehand, slowly. Whether you want to do one single line or a few short flicks, it is up to you. Just take it slowly and build the colour up.

Once you are happy with your tips and they have dried, apply a clear coat. This is an important step, to me, as I find that my French nails chip quite quickly. I blame the fact that I haven’t found a decent white yet!

DSC06920

These nails lasted just under a week before the whites began to chip. Due to the neutral shade of the pink that was still going strong, I was tempted to leave them as it for a bit longer, however, then remembered this blog post and decided to change them completely.

To a lovely purple. I mean, why not? I’m still a bit unsure about this coloured polish – I mean, I love the colour but I don’t know if my skin likes the colour. It doesn’t stop me from wearing it though. So, after two coats of this Oroton ‘Purple Passion’ and a quick top coat, I was ready to go!

DSC06988

A few days past and, like usual, my index and thumb began to chip. Why are those always the first nails to chip? Someone please inform me!

Then, I had to go out. No time to change the colour, I decided to just spice them up a bit, recoating the chipped nails and added a diagonal effect on my ring fingers. With a strip of masking tape, this effect is super easy – add the tape at the angle you want, apply your first colour, let dry for a bit, rip off the masking tape, apply the second colour. Easy!

DSC07104

The final colour I decided to put on my nails was more neutral than its predecessor. This glorious matte white, ‘White Velvet’, is the exact same brand and style as my first colouring – the blue nails – and a fitting end colour to the month.

It wasn’t until I was on my way to uni that I realised that I hadn’t snapped a few shots of my nails, using the bumpy momentum of the train to get them before the activities of uni potentially ruined them.

With those final pictures of my pearly nails, my nail polishes for a month comes to a close.

Kay Anne.

Everyday Essentials – Beauty

Morning Beautifuls,

Ever have one of those mornings where you just run around your room, frantically, trying to figure out what you need for that day?

Yeah, me too.

It then dawned on me that no matter my state, I have beauty essentials that I will use practically everyday.

Which is why I wanted to share them with you!

DSC07069

Random things first! Why not?
Deodorant – obviously – , perfume, eyes drops and face mask.

Is it weird to have a face mask in it? I love this QV face mask (as you all know) and use it on such a regular basis that it is probably become an everyday essential for me.

This perfume is also amazing – it is by ‘Fragonard’ – A French perfumery – called ‘Belle de Nuit’ and is BEAUTIFUL! If you can get your hands on this scent (or any of their other scents), I highly recommend it. The packaging is also amazing, making it convenient for shoving in your bag and taking with you for a little spritz!

DSC07070

Powder, bronzer, mascara – literally my makeup essentials. And some other random ones – a compact blush brush and eyelash curlers. To me, a compact powder and blush brush are perfect handbag essentials, especially for long days! Bronzer and mascara are also great as they are perfect for any beauty look – morning, midday or night!

DSC07071DSC07072

Other essentials – that usually change – include an eyeshadow, lipstick and lipgloss. For essentials, I try and keep the colours neutral, which is why at the moment they are my Mac matte lipstick and eyeshadow pot – both small compact and build able. Even on busy days, it is easy to use these products to go from a day look to a night look!

April Favourites

Morning Beautifuls,

April has passed – blimey is this year going fast enough?! It could slow down a bit! Anyway, you know what the start of a new month means?

MONTHLY FAVOURITES POST!

Yay!

DSC07109

There is a few mismatched items here, let me tell you that! But beauty favourites first!

DSC07115

This month, I have had a few too many meetings, interviews and other random important things. Due to this, I have rekindled a love for Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. This is a liquid foundation – which literally has the consistency of mousse – which is the most incredible foundation that I have found so far. I love the coverage of the foundation as it blends in really well, and can be used as a thin foundation or apply a bit more thicker depending on how your skin is behaving. For me, this works extremely well at matching my skin, getting rid of any red marks I may have and any dark circles without making my skin look weird and 2D. Extremely perfect foundation to try if you want something a bit different (I particularly love the mousse feel as well!).

DSC07110

Ahh, of course – my loved Naked Pallet. Have to admit, this has become an extreme favourite of mine since I bought it a few months ago. I love the colours and the way it blends. Surprisingly, I have been loving the blues in this pallet, especially ‘slanted’. Has to be my new favourite eyeshadow colour at the moment. Especially when matched with ‘high’ or ‘combust’. Wowzah! Very, very happy with this pallet.

DSC07116

Lipsticks! This month, we Australia moves into the weirdest Autumn ever, I have been loving my Rimmel lipstick in the colour ‘Coffee Shimmer’ (264). This lipstick is a beautiful dark brown – with a hint of red – making it an incredible Autumn colour. And winter colour. Super, duper favourite wintery lipstick at the moment!

DSC07113

I became extremely invested in painting my nails throughout the whole of April. I don’t think I ever didn’t have my nails painted throughout the whole of April. My particular favourites have to be Tanya Burr nail polish. These are the two colours I picked up in England (unfortunately cannot get them in Australia yet!) and I absolutely love them! The bright pink – ‘bright and early’ – is a very cheerful colour (that I am wearing at the moment) that makes you feel extremely happy. The lighter pink – ‘mini marshmallows’ – is my newest favourite nude pink colour. These nail polishes go on smoothly and last pretty well. Yay!

DSC07112

A bit more random things now. Rings. I have been loving rings this month. Like I said previously – this month has been full of meetings and interviews, which have increased my anxiety levels throughout the month. Which means an extremely level of fiddling. Because I fiddle excessively when I’m nervous or stressed. Which isn’t the best in interviews.

My tip for this is to wear rings. You can fiddle with rings – spin them round and take them on and off – without anyone noticing that much. And they are super pretty and lovely. Rings are now my new favourite accessory!

DSC07117

Look! My Taylor Swift 1989 sunnies! These are incredible! I am sure these have been in my favourite before but I really do love the colour of them and their lenses are awesome! Very good sunnies!

DSC07111

Mini pull-off note pads! These are super cute notes and have been extremely helpful in reminding me of everything I need to do! Don’t know why I have been loving them so much, but I soon as I thought about things that I have been loving these months, these were the first things that came into my mind!

DSC07114

MINI PEGS! THESE ARE AMAZING AND COULD BE MY TOP FAVOURITE THINGS IN APRIL! Woah, okay got a bit too excited there! I do really love these pegs, they have been amazing for holding up post-its around my room, clipping tickets and letters onto my calendar form the month and adding a bit of colour and fun when I have to hold papers together. The rose pattern on the top of them are super cute as well and I love how they come in a pack of 8 (yes, I have four in use at the moment), giving you the perfect amount for everything you need!

That is it! All my favourites of April! Just between you and me, I have a sneaky suspicion that May is going to be an incredible month!

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne

Comparing Makeup Pallets

Morning Beautifuls,

I hope you are all having a lovely, fantastic day wherever you are and have a incredibly awesome night as well!

My friend made the mistake to ask(ed) me about my recent purchase of the (slightly expensive) Naked Pallet, which gave me the amazing idea for this post (so thank you Steph!) (and wow, sorry for all the parentheses!).

Reviewing high end, high street and drug store (or whatever you want to label them as) eyeshadow pallets! Well, in this case, W7, Chi Chi and Naked pallets.

All three pallets I have used quite a bit, trying most of the 12 colours each pallet comes with. You will find that all of them have my “go-to” colours in them with some slight differences in other shades and colours. Hopefully, this blog post gives you a bit of an idea of the pros and cons with different makeup pallets out there, giving you some dupes for pallets in your price range similar to the high end brands.

DSC07096

W7 Eyeshadow Pallet ($10.00)

The pallet from W7 that I own is the ‘In the Night: Smokey Shades’ eye colour pallet. It comes in a metal tin with a double ended brush that is actually a perfect beginners eye shadow brush, in my opinion. I actually picked up this pallet for the first two colours – ‘dusty’ and ‘wonderland’ – as golds and shades of golds are my everyday eyeshadow colour. It is only recently that I have branched out past golds and silvers into blues, pinks and purples when going out!

These colours are quite pretty, they are nicely pigmented and go on the lids really well. However, they are a slight challenge to blend and I do steer away from their darks as they are slightly too pigmented and I haven’t quite combatted their blending. Yet. I will get there!

In saying that, they are still lovely colours, making them perfect for eyeshadow bases – I love using them with the other two pallets as they have a good mix of shimmers and mattes in there.

Chi Chi Pallet ($23.00-$25.00)

I do have to admit, I love this pallet. I will pick it up over to W7 pallet – with the only reason I decided to pick up the W7 pallet was because I have nearly finished the Chi Chi gold colour. My only issue is that it doesn’t have colour names! But thats just me.

I love these colours – the first there are more of a matte colour and work well with each other, hover the next two have been my staples for months and months and months. Thye have a slight shimmer with them and are perfect texture, colour and pigmentation for my eyes. They also blend very well together and look amazing. In saying that, this is also the pallet I use for a more of a silvery look!

Overall, I have found this pallet incredible and have always wanted to try more of them!

Urban Decay ($80.00-$85.00)

Oh, yes. My expensive “LETS SPLURGE” buy in Amsterdam. I got extremely excited when I saw this pallet in Amsterdam as they are SUPER HARD to find where I live and, seeming I had money to spend, I decided to take a dive and buy it.

After looking at all of the pallets Urban Decay do, I fell in love with the Naked: Smoky pallet as it was filled with colours that I could use on an everyday basis and then some other colours that I was interested in trying out.

I have to admit, this is the pallet I find is the most easiest to blend. I’m surprised I’m saying that – I never really thought to myself “oh this is difficult to blend” or “oh this is easy to blend” – but I now use colours from the other two pallets as a base and use this pallet to blend colours in. The colours are also super pigmented – they have done well with these colours!

In saying that, it is slightly expensive, and I do find that Chi Chi is a really good alternative. However, I do not regret buying it because I do ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT and if you are looking for a high end, good quality eyeshadow pallet, Urban Decay Naked pallets are definitely worth an investigation!

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne.

Makeup Madness

Morning Beautifuls,

So, as you all are probably aware, I found my notes regarding a tag called ‘Closet Confidential’. Then, some weird part of my brain decided it would be a great idea to tweak the tag and create a ‘Makeup Madness’ tag where I use the questions in the ‘Closet Confidential’ tag and relate them to my makeup collection. Yay!

So, enjoy!

Oldest Product: Australis Pallet – I received this complete compact pallet one Christmas from my mother when I was around eleven or twelve. You know, back in my teen years where I used to pretend I knew what I was doing with makeup but never actually did. I think I may have played around for it for about a week before I realised I had no idea what I did with it and put it away. Until I was about eighteen. It is actually really good quality makeup with incredible matte eyeshadows and awesome blushes.

DSC06938DSC06939

Newest Product: Naked Pallet – I have been wanting a Naked pallet for years now and when I saw them in Amsterdam, I had to buy one. Yes, I love it!

DSC06940DSC06941

Most Expensive Product: Naked Pallet – Yes, it is my most expensive beauty product as well. I don’t think I have ever spent so much on makeup. Worth it (although I don’t think I could ever do it again – that was a lot of money!).

Cheapest Item: Anything by Savvy or W7 – these products are cheap in price without being cheap in quality. As you can see, I have nearly completely finished the Savvy Colour Correctional Powder and the W7 Bronzer is the only bronzer I own and love.

DSC06942

Biggest Bargain: Covergirl Mascara – On sale for $3.50! This is incredible mascara although I find it is very difficult to find in shops.

DSC06943

Biggest Waste of Money: Covergirl Powder Foundation – okay, I am not shaming this product at all. It is probably pretty good. My only issue is it is heavenly scented and makes my face puff up to three times its size. So, oops. Don’t actually know what to do with this now.

DSC06944

3 Favourite Items: Rimmel Nail Polish in ‘Azure’ (198), Mac Matte Lipstick in ‘Persistence’ (A75) and Mac Eye Shadow Pot in ‘Gleam’ – This was hard to select but I think I manage to find three different makeup products for this. I love this blue nail polish as it is something a bit different without being too extreme. The eye shadow is perfect as a lazy makeup solution and the lipstick is my everyday lipstick at the moment. Love!

DSC06948

Brightest Product: Tanya Burr Lipgloss ‘Aphrodite’ or Savvy Lipbalm ‘Craving’ – Bright but both incredible products!

DSC06951

Craziest Product: BYS Nail Polish in Green – I know, you are probably all thinking ‘who owns a green nail polish?’ I do. Only because I wanted to try a Christmas nail look that included a green nail polish. Biggest fail ever.

DSC06952

Favourite Mix: W7 Souffle Mascara with Maybelline Colour Sensational in Pink Satin (120) – This is my go-to makeup products if I need a quick makeup look that needs to be done in 0.000003 seconds. I really don’t think anyone can go wrong with a bit of mascara and a pink nude lipstick to brighten the face!

March Favourites 2016

Morning Beautifuls,

March has flown by which gives me the opportunity to share with you my March favourites! Yay!

DSC07056

The first product I have been loving is the QV Purifying Clay Face Mask. This face mask is a gentle, nourishing mask that can be applied every single day (if wanted) or whenever you like. I use this now instead of any moisturising products and my skin has never been cleaner and fresher. Very highly recommended!

DSC07057

Beauty-wise, I have been loving my Mac Matte lipstick and these Profusion  nail polish remover pads. The lipstick is the most gorgeous shade ‘Persistence’ – incredible for an everyday and night lip colour for slightly tanned skin.

The nail polish removers are potentially the best ‘cheats way’ at removing nail polish -quick, easy and none of that chemically smell. It literally takes seconds to remove and you don’t have to scrub your nails – hold it on an swipe and it practically all comes off!

DSC07058

Now, onto random things. These Taylor Swift sunnies are my new favourite sunnies! I adore their pale pink colour and their shape is perfect, wide and comfortable fitting.

DSC07059

Shoes! I love these shoes (well, of course I do or they wouldn’t have made them into my favourites blog!). These are some of the most comfortable shoes I own – both with and without socks. Yes, I’m weird sometimes and like wearing joggers without socks. I love their colour and style as well – something a big neat and light in colour.

DSC07060

My favourite book this month is, yes, a comic book. Of Snoopy! This is easily the most feel-good book in the world. If you have never read a Snoopy/Charlie Brown/Peanuts comic, you are missing out.

DSC07061DSC07063

I love making lists, it makes me feel organised an helps me get through everything I need to do that little bit easier and faster. This erasable To-Do list has been my lifesaver this month – it gives me the ability to write a list, complete the list and then write another list and reduces the amount of mini pieces of paper scattered around me room.

DSC07064

My final favourite of the month and, what possibly is my ultimate favourite. My bright blue ukulele.

I love this instrument.

Granted, I only did buy (and learn!) it this month, but this has to be one of the best instruments out there – easy to play (well, easier than a guitar at least) and the most tinkly instrument ever. Plus is super convenient to carry around. I even managed to take it camping!

DSC07065

Just a shout out to the new TV series called ‘You’re in the Room’ on ABC. I tried watching the first episode while writing this blog post and had to close my laptop because I was in stitches of laughter. Its a comedic ‘hypnotic’ show – and it is amazing! Definitely check it out if you can!

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne.

Makeup Look: Pinks and Blues

Morning Beautifuls,

I felt like being a bit adventurous today and moving away from my usual nudes to a bit of a more colourful makeup look.

Not quite sure why – maybe to make up for the mopey weather outside. Cheer up sky!

As I haven’t shared a makeup related blog with you for a while, I thought I would today!

DSC06907

DSC06909

I kept my foundation simple, only using Savvy CC powder and W7 Bronzer. I love Savvy CC powder and has become more of a staple product than I ever thought it was. The different powders in it do wonders at correcting my face colours. Sometimes I don’t even need to use any sort of concealer as it covers up my red spots and dark circles perfectly. Then, just to add a bit of colour and definition to my face, I brush on a bit of bronzer.

DSC06913DSC06915DSC06914DSC06916

I used both W7 In The Night and Urban Decay Naked: Smoky pallet for the eyeshadows. You could probably get away using just the W7 pallet, however I really like how the Naked eyeshadows blend. Not saying the W7 colours don’t blend well – Naked are just quicker and easier. Anyway enough rambling.

I used the W7 ‘Lady Luck’ (a shimmery purply-pink) over my top eyelid, adding ‘Party Pooper’ (a lovely pale pink) into the inner corner of my eye and underneath. Then, for the crease, I missed Naked ‘Slanted (a grey) with ‘Dagger’ (a dark blue) to create a dark bluey-grey smokey effect. I also ran this in the outer area of my lower eye.

Then for liner, I added my Rimmel ScandalEyes liquid liner to my top lash, smearing it out with Savvy pencil eyeliner in the colour ‘Blueberry Fizz’. I found that the mixture of these two colours complimented each other, creating a subtle dark blue. Add a bit of your favourite mascara and your eyes are complete!

DSC06917

For my lips, I decided to use Isadora Matt Lips pencil in the colour ‘Queen of Roses’. This pencil is beautiful, giving the most vibrant colours and lasting forever! To mute the colour slightly, I smudge a bit of lipgloss in with it, creating more of a gentle pink lip.

And thats my makeup look! Bright, fun lips with a more smokey eye!

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne

Sensitive Skin Care Night Routine

Morning Beautifuls,

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to go get allergy tested for cosmetic products – something that I wanted to do for a very long time.

After an excruciating painful week (I mean, my back felt like it was been attacked by bees, ants and every other stinging insect in the world), the results were in. Along with some minor allergies, I finally found out that I am allergic to fragrances.

Fun.

Which led to a quite major revamp of my cosmetic products. However, it does mean I’ve been experimenting with my night time routine in an attempt to get my skin perfect to reduce the amount of makeup on my face. Because, fun fact, a lot of those products include fragrances!

So, finally, after months of trial and error and scouring the shopping isles for fragrant-free products, I think I have figured out a very easy but amazing night time routine that cleanses and moisturises my face. I also find that I don’t need to put creams on my face in the morning as regularly, making my ‘getting ready’ a bit quicker. Plus I rarely need to wear foundation to cover any blemishes – I mean, that is a massive bonus in my books! I am so happy with the products I am using, so I just had to share them with you!

DSC06879

Oh dear – I think I have a bias here towards a specific brand. So far, Simple and QV are the only two ‘cheaper’ options that are easily accessible that I can use. I say cheaper in quotations as they are still quite pricey for drugstore options. I usually steer away from products with super long ingredient lists – anything over half the box of ingredients I usually put down straight away.

DSC06885

The first three products I use, I use in the shower. First thing I do, using a bar of soap and my exfoliating glove, is exfoliate my whole body. I usually do this step three to four times a week, depending on how I feel and even occasionally use the exfoliating glove to exfoliate my face as well.

Next, I use Simple Foaming Cleanser all over my body. Now, I know I am probably using this product wrong (as it seems to be a face cleanser) however, it does wonders to your skin, leaving your arms and legs (and all the skin in between) feeling fresh, clean and smooth. So sue me but I will continue using it this way.

Finally, I apply and wash off the Moisturising Facial Wash by Simple. I have been using this product for ages know and love it to death. It does wonders to your skin and is one of the only facial washes I have found that I can use on a daily basis without irritating my skin.

DSC06895

Just thought I would also throw in my shampoo and conditioner that I am using at the moment. For ages, I have been using Alchemy brands, however just recently decided to try out QV shampoo and conditioners. I have to say, I have loved them so far!

DSC06883

After I’m all sparkly and clean, I move onto the next part of my routine. Depending on how thick my eye makeup was that day, I sometimes have to use a bit of eye makeup remover to remove any panda eyes that I may have previously missed. Then, on a makeup pad, I splash a bit of Simple Soothing Facial Toner, swiping that across my face, before letting it sink in a ‘dry’. From there, I take one of two routes.

DSC06887

Every once or twice a month, if I feel like pampering myself a bit further, I will moisturise everything (except my face) with Aveeno Moisturing Cream. I love this stuff – pretty sure I talked about it in a previous routine. It makes your skin feel like silk, however, it does leave a bit of a sticky aftermath if applied to thickly or in hot weather. It also lasts forever. This is still my very first pot I bought (maybe two to three years ago?) and I have one last application out of it. Which is amazing when it comes to product longevity!

Then I use a face mask. Previously, I’ve been using Nivea’s Moisturising Masks (which come in a pack of two) and love them to death, however really wanted something with a few more uses.

I have been looking for a face mask that I can use for months now and only saw the QV Purifying Clay Mask in the shops a few days ago. Obviously, I tried it straight away.

So far so good!

DSC06890

On other normal days, I skipped those two steps and move onto my Simple Night Cream. Sometimes, I do use it after the mask, other times I don’t. But I do try and use it every other night. I like this product more than the Simple Moisturisers as I feel that it does more good to my face at night that I can still feel in the morning. It also is suitable for the eye region, reducing the amount of steps I had to do when using their other moisturisers (as they always felt tingly under the eyes). As for the ‘age-resisting’ part – I find them gentler on the skin, although I did get told once that you’re meant to start using ‘age-protecting’ products in your twenties. Who knows though?

That’s it!

That is literally everything I use at night – I’ll definitely try and keep this blog updated with the products I experiment with when it comes to my sensitive skin.

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne.

Beauty for Travelling

Morning Beautifuls,

By the time you read this blogpost, I’m probably in Spain somewhere, hopefully not freezing, having an amazing adventure!

However, the past me writing this blog has just finished a bowl of ice-cream and feeling extremely excited to be sharing with you my beauty bits and pieces I am planning to take overseas.

I’ve kept it very basic because knowing me I won’t be wearing too much makeup during many of the days – probably putting a bit on for nights out or when I just want to feel a bit more dressed up. Although, looking at the picture I took, there is quite a bit of makeup there…

IMG_3956

First things first (I’m the realist), skin-wise I wanted to keep it very basic and simple – something I can just throw on in a few minutes if I really wanted to put something on to hide any spots or dark circles (because I’m bracing myself for jet lag). W7 Hide It! concealer and Savvy Colour Correctional Powder are perfect at correcting skin, making it less oily and splotchy looking. I then added my W7 powder – something I use on a regular basis – and their bronzer. I picked bronzer over blush as I find I use it heaps more as it matches my skin tone better and, for me, can double as a blush if necessary. This is more a ‘just in case’ product that I may use on a night out than something I think I will use everyday. Although, I never know…

IMG_3959

For eyes, I kept it really simple. As I keep my eye makeup very natural most of the time, I decided to only take my small W7 browns pallet, as the four colours in it are the four main colours I use throughout the year. The natural colours and the slight glitter shimmer to it make them perfect for blending to create day and night looks and the small packaging makes it travel friendly as it is less bulky than any of the other pallets I was planning to take.

The decision between a liquid liner or a kohl pencil was a tricky but in the end I decided to take both a black and a brown kohl pencil. My decision for pencil over liquid liner was mainly due to my unskilledness in applying liquid liner quickly and perfectly. Kohl pencils are awesome, quick to apply and easy to remove at the end of the day. Why take black and brown? I dunno – I use them both and couldn’t decide which to take!

Then, of course, mascara. A must in any makeup bag of mine. I love W7 Souffle mascara at the moment as it has an incredible application and a nice natural look to it when applied. Plus it sits nicely on both top and bottom lashes, reducing the amount of makeup products I have to take.

IMG_3957

Lips was one of the easiest choices for me. I only picked three because I felt like these would be the ones I would use the most over there, especially since it was winter and I probably wouldn’t be doing too much to my lips on days when travelling. Colette Sweet Lips lip balm is my go to lip balm when keeping my lips moisturised, making it a must to take with me. I find that its tine packaging reduces any issues of it leaking or breaking, making it a perfect travel buddy. As for lip colours, it was only right to take my Covergirl Berry Gloss Balm and my Rimmel lipstick in the colour Coffee Shimmer (264) as these were the two colours I lived in for winter in Australia. Plus they are fun, vibrant colours that work with almost anything! And I just love them.

IMG_3961

Brushes. I ended up with four. I love double ended brushes, especially when travelling as you can take all the different styles in half the amount of space. Travel brushes with are also extremely handy as they can be loose in your bag and you don’t have to worry about them getting grubby and dirty. Although I am unsure about whether or not to take my eyelash curlers… and I am leaning more towards to ‘or not’. I guess it’ll come down to whether or not it fits in the bag in the end!

IMG_3964

The finally beauty related products I will be taking with me are my cleansers and moisturisers. Yes, they are all Simple products – you know how much I love Simple products. I actually found out that they do a face mask the other day and am extremely disappointed that you can’t get it in Australia…

Their facial wipes are awesome at removing all types of makeup without making your skin super dry and icky feeling. I use these a lot when I just need to remove my makeup and I can’t be bothered to have a shower or cleanse completely. They are also great for feeling more refreshed after long rides or flights – probably the product that I will use on the plane before we get off in order to feel a bit more awake! I also take the eye makeup remover for those days where my eye makeup is a tiny bit more stubborn than usual. And then my facial wash which has become part of my nightly routine.

IMG_3966

That’s it! That is my beauty pieces I am taking travelling with me, and literally all my absolute favourites (because what else do you take travelling?). Hope you enjoyed it and be prepared for another blog post soon!

Keep smiling,

Kay Anne.

Christmas Morning Routine + Makeup Look!

Morning Beautifuls,

Three more sleeps until Christmas!

If you have anyone in your household under the age of thirteen (or anyone really who just gets super excited for Christmas), you are probably having to prepare yourself for a very, very early morning wakeup on the big day. Which for me means a busy morning followed by an afternoon of lounging around and watching TV. Classic Christmas!

However, as the morning is busy, I find it difficult to do a complete cleanse and makeup look in order to feel awake for the whole day. So today I really wanted to share with you my super quick, super easy morning routine on Christmas day.

The first thing I always do in the morning once I have woken up is wash my face. I have read studies that recommend never washing your  face with warm to hot water because it can dry out the skin but, lets be real, when it is the middle of winter and freezing cold, sometimes that is hard! I try to always use cold water or lukewarm water and pat my face and neck clean with a damp face towel.

On early mornings, when I have time, I occasionally apply a cold eye mask to my eyes for around 2-5mins in 20 second intervals. This is perfect in reducing puffiness and dark circles around my eyes and leaves me feeling more awake (which makes it great for Christmas day!). Next I apply my moisturiser. Previously, I have been using Neutrogena moisturiser but the other day I stumbled across Simple’s Hydrating Light Moisturiser which I have fallen in love with. I have super sensitive skin and it is the first ever moisturiser I have been able to wear every day, seven days a week. However, I do find it slightly different to most other moisturisers I have used as it leaves a ‘wet’ feeling for a few minutes after its application. However, once it dries and soaks in, you can’t even feel it! Under my eyes I like using my QV Revitalising Eye Cream. This is amazing at reducing dark circles and that look of sleep deprivation.

As we do presents in the morning on Christmas Day, this would probably be everything I do before heading out to have breakfast and engage in all the festiveness! Once all the family morning is over, and just before we have people over or head out, I throw on a very simple and quick makeup look.

Using just a tad of foundation powder (my trusty W7 Sheer Loose Powder) and then brushing on by Savvy Colour Correctional Powder and W7 Bronzer (if necessary), I then focus on my eyes. Keeping it simple, I love dusting my eyelids with a gold shimmer eyeshadow before lining my eyes in a brown pencil and brushing my lashed with a bit of mascara. Any gold colour would do, but for a cheap option BYS Metallics pallet has a perfect gold shimmer in both a lighter and darker shade (I love the darker one!). And then, as it is Christmas, a red lip is definitely in order!

I love the gold, brown and red tones together as they give a lovely warm Christmas glow. I find that with a red lip, keeping all the other makeup natural gives for a perfect complexion and look.

Throw on some festive earrings and jewellery and your Christmas outfit (because lets be real, at Christmas you never get out of your PJ’s until it is extremely necessary!) and you are ready to go!

Keep smiling and have a holly, jolly Christmas!
