Morning Beautifuls,
So, I had an idea for a blog post a while back – to show you the nail colours I wore for a month.
It was a slight challenge a well, the rule of the nail polish was that once it became chipped I was to remove it and change it up instead of leaving it on and picking at it until there were only speckles left. Lets be real, everyone does it!
I also cheated a tiny little bit – I think – as the first nail polish was one a few days before the month officially started and the last nail colour was applied on the last month of the day. But seeming I’m making the rules for this blog post, I’m just going to ignore those two minor details.
Anyway, first nail colour of the month was my absolute favourite nail polish. To date. I bought this colour over in Europe – Berlin, I think. No idea what shop, no idea if you can buy it elsewhere but I love it.
Appropriately named ‘Moody Blues’, it is a gorgeous royal blue matte nail varnish with a beautiful velvet-like finish to it. I adore this colour – a bit too much, I think – and I love its application. I like to do two thin coats of this colour and then, because I don’t own a matte clear coat, omit using anything else. The pictures are day two of the wear – surprisingly not many chips. This colour and the way I applied it seemed to last for just over a week because I decided it was too cracked and chipped and I had to move on.
Now for something completely different. French tipped nails. I love these nails, however have found myself doing them less and less as they need time, effort and concentration. Something that sometimes I don’t have. Which was why I was so excited that I had the time when it came to nail polish number two.
How do I do my French tips? Well, firstly, I find French nail kits a complete waste of money – you can definitely buy all you need for a lot less than a kit.
My first coat is always a light pink. For years I have used my Nutrometics pink polish, however when my eyes laid eyes on Tanya Burr ‘Mini Marshmallows’ I immediately knew that this was the perfect colour for French nails. It is the lightest nude pink that covers up nail blemishes while still looking extremely natural. Once one coat of my pink nail polish is dried – completely! – I got in with a careful had a dab on my white tips. This takes time and practice, try using tape if this is your first shot, however I found it easier just to do it freehand, slowly. Whether you want to do one single line or a few short flicks, it is up to you. Just take it slowly and build the colour up.
Once you are happy with your tips and they have dried, apply a clear coat. This is an important step, to me, as I find that my French nails chip quite quickly. I blame the fact that I haven’t found a decent white yet!
These nails lasted just under a week before the whites began to chip. Due to the neutral shade of the pink that was still going strong, I was tempted to leave them as it for a bit longer, however, then remembered this blog post and decided to change them completely.
To a lovely purple. I mean, why not? I’m still a bit unsure about this coloured polish – I mean, I love the colour but I don’t know if my skin likes the colour. It doesn’t stop me from wearing it though. So, after two coats of this Oroton ‘Purple Passion’ and a quick top coat, I was ready to go!
A few days past and, like usual, my index and thumb began to chip. Why are those always the first nails to chip? Someone please inform me!
Then, I had to go out. No time to change the colour, I decided to just spice them up a bit, recoating the chipped nails and added a diagonal effect on my ring fingers. With a strip of masking tape, this effect is super easy – add the tape at the angle you want, apply your first colour, let dry for a bit, rip off the masking tape, apply the second colour. Easy!
The final colour I decided to put on my nails was more neutral than its predecessor. This glorious matte white, ‘White Velvet’, is the exact same brand and style as my first colouring – the blue nails – and a fitting end colour to the month.
It wasn’t until I was on my way to uni that I realised that I hadn’t snapped a few shots of my nails, using the bumpy momentum of the train to get them before the activities of uni potentially ruined them.
With those final pictures of my pearly nails, my nail polishes for a month comes to a close.
Keep smiling,
Kay Anne.
